It was a tough outing for both the Springwood girls and boys varsity teams Tuesday as the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats dropped games at AISA rival Macon-East Academy.
Coach Rick Johnson’s Lady Wildcats (5-1) lost its first game of the season while coach Drew Dorsey’s Wildcats (1-5) also fell.
In the girls game, Springwood lost 47-36.
Senior wing Maya Battle led the Lady Wildcats with 12 points while junior guard Dee Williams added 10 and sophomore Andie Martin chipped in with eight.
“When the two teams met in Lanett 10 days ago, the big story behind our win on that night was throttling Macon East top scorer Madisyn Kennedy,” Johnson said. “She avenged that performance last night by scoring a game-high 26 points. We definitely felt the effects of the Thanksgiving break but Macon- East had their break, too. Macon-East played with a lot of intensity and physicality that our young team did not respond to very well. Hopefully, it will provide a good lesson for us to be ready each time we step on the court. Our defense forced 30 turnovers when we played them 10 days ago and last night only had 19. We must create offense with our defense and we didn’t do that as well tonight.”
•In the junior varsity game, the Lady Wildcats also dropped their first game of the year by a final of 20-18. Courtney Easlick led with seven points.
•In the boys varsity game, Springwood lost to Macon-East 44-35.
Gus Davidson led the Wildcats with 19 points.
The varsity will play Thursday against East Memorial Christian at 6 p.m. ET in Lanett at Boswell gym.
