LANETT — Mr. Ricky Hurst, 69, of Lanett, Ala. passed away on Tuesday, Dec.  26, 2017 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala.

Mr. Hurst is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna Hurst; his two sons, Shayne Hurst and Randy (Michelle) Hurst; his daughter, Daphanie Hurst; his sister, Linda (Rick) Abbott; his brother, Ronnie (Joyce) Hurst; his nine grandchildren, Kyle (Christina) Newman, Keegan Abrams, Chase Abrams, Jamie (Jimmy) Porter, Bailey Hurst, Andi Hurst, Chesnee Hurst, Shaylee Hurst, and Judson Hurst; his four great grandchildren, Edie Newman, Kylee Newman, Carlie Newman, and Falon Porter; his three best friends, Jeff Landrum, Ken Jones, Gene McCormick.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Hurst; his mother, Lottie Hurst; his daughter, Dee Dee Abrams; and his son, Richard Brandon Hurst.

Mr. Hurst was born on Dec. 8, 1948 in LaFayette, Ala.  He was known for his big bright smile, loud laughs, and the love he had for his family and friends.  He was happiest when all of his family and friends were gathered together.  He was the type of person that could light up a room by walking in.  He was a hardworking man who was mostly known for his work as a truck driver. He retired from driving for Walmart in Nov. 2017.  He was a devoted family man and a friend to many who will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at 4 p.m. EST at the Johnson brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with Dr. Shirley Dempsey officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 3 p.m. EST until the service hour at the funeral home.
