One arrested in early morning homicide

WEST POINT — A 63-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a West Point man.
West Point Police on Tuesday charged Freddy Lee Sutton with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was taken into custody at the Town and Country Hotel in LaGrange.
According to a release by the West Point Police Department, at midnight on Dec. 18, police were called to 1303 Avenue K Apt. B about an individual that had possibly been shot.
Officers, along with EMS personnel arrived and discovered William Carter Lee, 65, sitting on the couch having suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to his leg and abdomen.
Lee was unresponsive and the coroner was called. He was pronounced dead at 1:25 a.m.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations was called in to assist with processing the crime scene.
At 6:03 a.m., Sutton was taken into custody.
West Point Police Public Information Officer Cameron Mitchell said officers were still doing follow-up work on the case, but no new information was expected.
