Rachel King is the newest addition to the Valley Times-News and its affiliated publications.

She is coming in as a general assignment reporter and began work in Lanett Feb. 12.

King, a native of Dothan, Ala., moved to Auburn in 2014 to pursue college. During her time as a student
King worked with the Auburn Plainsman as a community reporter for a
year.

She then spent five months with the Opelika Observer as a staff reporter. Following her work with the Observer she interned with the Coach Pat Dye show as social media marketing associate.

“We feel Rachel will be an excellent addition to our news team,” Managing Editor Steven Thomas said. “With her background and education, she will fit right in and will help in our efforts to provide the best coverage of the Greater Valley Area possible.”

King is a graduate of Auburn University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a concentration in political science.

“I’m excited to be working with The Valley Times-News,” King said. “It is my hope to be a contributing member of the community and to give the area the coverage it deserves. Boone has some high expectations for that paper and it’s a growing vision that I’m happy to be a part of.”

BNI currently owns and manages more than 75 community newspapers and succeeded Nell Walls as the owner of the Valley Times-News in October 2017.
