MRS. DOROTHY SIGMAN

VALLEY, Ala. — Mrs. Dorothy “Dottie” J. Sigman, 90, of Valley, Ala. passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the EAMC-Lanier Nursing Home in Valley.

Mrs. Sigman was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on November 2, 1927 to the late John Russell Foster and Cora Freeman Foster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Sigman; daughter, Anita S. Davis; sisters, Christine Peebles and Virginia M. Mollett; brothers, John Russell Foster, Jr. and William Jessie Foster.

Mrs. Sigman was a practicing Christian.

Mrs. Sigman was a lifelong homemaker spending most of her life creating and making a home for her family.  She was a very crafty lady who had the talent and character to make many things that she owned and used each day.  She was an excellent seamstress and decorator, who created several decorative items such as draperies, furniture coverings, and other linens. 

Her other passions included reading, politics, and being informed on current day events and news.

She is survived by her sons, Jack T. (Jesse) Kennedy, Woodland, Ala., Gerald (Sheila) Sigman, Valley; sister, Annie B. Vickers, Valley; son-in-law, Donald (Ruthie) Davis, Lake Harding community; seven grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 2 p.m. EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home – Valley Chapel with a private interment following the service.  The Rev. Daryl Peebles will be officiating the service.  Her family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1 until 2 p.m. EST and immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Mrs. Sigman’s memory to Chattahoochee Hospice or to the Lanier Nursing Home.
