MRS. VERLA LOUISE BROWN

LANETT — Verla Louise Boyd Brown, 87, of Lanett, died Monday, February 12, 2018, at Diversicare of Lanett. Born June 12, 1930, Mrs. Brown was a longtime resident of Lanett. She retired from West Point Stevens, having been employed as a payroll clerk in the Towel Department at Fairfax and Fairview Mills for many years. She was a faithful, active member of Plant City United Methodist Church, serving as the church treasurer for many years. Along with her late husband, Glover, she was well known for the many desserts she deliciously prepared.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Becky (Jimmy) Sands, Lanett, and son, Donnie (Karen) Erwin-Brown, West Point. She had three grandchildren; Patrick (Sara) Sands, Beth (Drew) Strickland and Lucy (Cody) Royster, and eight great grandchildren, Emily and Ryan Sands, Brady, Eli, and Jake Strickland, and Tomlin, Thatcher, and Dalton Royster. She is also survived by a sister, Diane Castle. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Glover Wade Brown, great grandson Thomas Wade Royster; parents, Harvey Aubrey Boyd and Mary Ragsdale Boyd, sister, Margie Clifton, and brothers, Ralph, Melvin and Harvey Boyd.

Funeral services will be conducted from Plant City United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. EST on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, with the Rev. Milton Newton officiating. A private family burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the church, respectfully declines the gift of flowers, and suggests that memorial gifts be directed toward the Missions Fund of Plant City United Methodist Church. The family expresses many thanks to the staff at Lanett Diversicare for their loving care.
