Businesses hosting bowling tourney

VALLEY — in an effort to raise money for Relay For Life, local businesses Valley Bowl and Hair Studio 21 have teamed up for Strike Out Cancer, a bowling tournament.
The event will be held Thursday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m. EST and will feature four member teams bowling two games each. Scores are scratch.
Team entry fees are $60, $15 per player, and include shoe rental and bowling.
Certificates for first place will be awarded to the winning team.
The decision to hold the event came from two places, a desire to help raise funds and a family history of illness.
James Caldwell, of Valley Bowling, said he wanted to raise money for Relay for Life even though the local group is no longer in operation.
“It’s something I wanted to do,” he said.
That sentiment was shared by Kimberly Mitchell, of Hair Studio 121.
Her family, specifically her mother and grandmother, and several of her customers have had a history of cancer.
Mitchell has been bowling for several years and during a meeting between the two, the decision was made to put together a tournament.
“He [James] said, ‘Let’s do this,’” she said. “I felt the need to it.”
Currently only a few teams have agreed to attend but both Mitchell and Caldwell believed most, if not all, of the 20 lanes will be filled on game day.
Caldwell added that he wanted to see as much participation as possible, saying he wanted participants to register as early as possible.
“But we’ll not turn any [participants] away,” he said. “I’m hoping to have all lanes filled.”
