VALLEY — A Lanett man has been charged with a March 22 robbery after police detained him about to commit a different robbery.
Traequan Javonte Green, 19, of Lanett, was charged with first degree robbery and third degree theft of property Monday concerning the robbery of the Dollar General store at 2918 20th Avenue in Valley.
A report released by the Valley Police Department states that on March 26 at approximately 10 p.m., detectives observed suspicious activity at the Dollar General store at 4531 Fairfax Bypass in Valley.
“They observed a small black vehicle driving slowly through the parking lot and around the building,” the report states. “The vehicle left the property and returned within a few minutes.”
Green’s vehicle circled the building again before parking. At this time, detectives observed Green get out and enter the store wearing a black hoodie and dark clothing.
The vehicle and Green’s description matched that given of the suspect in the March 22 robbery, the report states.
Green then left the store, making his way back to his vehicle when he was approached by the detectives. A pat down turned up a two-tone semi-automatic pistol tucked into the front of Green’s pants.
Green was then read his Miranda rights and confessed he was about to rob the store, the report states.
Upon further questioning, Green confessed to the March 22 robbery, as well as to armed robberies in Lee County and Opelika.
Green was transported to the Valley Police Department where he was charged with Robbery 1st and Theft of Property 3rd for the March 22nd incident.
A discussion with Major Mike Reynolds with the Valley Police Department did not reveal any new information but the police report does state that future charges are pending.
Authorities in Lee County and Opelika have been notified and Green was processed and transported to the Chambers County Detention Facility.
