Shots fired into Valley residence

VALLEY — This morning at approximately 6:40 a.m. EDT, officers of the Valley Police Department were called to a residence in the 2000 block of 35th Street in the Shawmut community in reference to shots being fired into the home.
“The homeowner reported that, while getting her children ready for school this morning at about 6:20 a.m. EDT, some unknown person or persons fired multiple shots into the home,” said Major Mike Reynolds. “Two of the shots entered the living room area where an adult and a small child were and a third shot entered the vacant children’s room. There were two adults and three children in the home at the time of the shooting.”
Reynolds added that a neighbor stated that they saw a small maroon vehicle with no lights on speeding away from the area shortly after the shooting.

In other incidents in Valley, two people were arrested on Wednesday. According to Valley Police Department reports,
Grady Scott Melton, 34, has been charged with bail jumping, second degree, and
Darius Ricks, of Valley has been charged with three counts of FTA.
In incidents being investigated by Valley police officers, criminal mischief, third degree, was reported on the 1600 block of River Road, disorderly conduct was reported on the 1100 block of County Road 500, and the unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle was reported on the 200 block of Sydney Street.
LANETT reports
LANETT — Six people were arrested in Lanett on Wednesday. According to Lanett Police Department reports,
Brandon James O’Steen, 26, of Five Points, Ala. has been charged with possession of marijuana, second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia;
Marcus Kentrell Whitlow, 33, of Opelika, Ala. has been charged with failure to pay – driving under the influence;
Christopher Lyndell Hicks, 27, of West Point, Ga. has been charged with failure to appear in court to answer charges of running a red light, failure to display insurance and giving a false name to a law enforcement officer;
Jeremiah Dennis Long, 28, of Lanett has been charged with harassment and criminal trespassing, third degree;
Darius Quintez Ricks, 27, of Valley has been charged with FTP – attempting to elude, and
Roy Holyfield, 51, of Lanett has been charged with domestic violence, third degree, criminal trespassing, third degree, and public intoxication.
In incidents being investigated by Lanett officers, criminal trespassing, first degree was reported on the 600 block of North 14th Court, domestic violence, third degree (harassment) was reported on the 300 block of South 2nd Avenue, and domestic violence, third degree, criminal trespassing, third degree, and criminal mischief, third degree, was reported on the 1300 block of 15th Street SW.
SHERIFF’s Office reports
LaFAYETTE — One person was arrested in Chambers County on Wednesday. According to Chambers County Sheriff’s Office reports,
Benjamin Beam, 23, of Opelika has been charged with theft of property, second degree.
There were 154 inmates in the Chambers County jail Thursday morning.
WEST POINT reports
WEST POINT — One person was arrested in West Point on Wednesday. According to WPPD reports,
Ricketta Renee Moore of West Point was arrested on an FTA warrant from Fulton County, Ga.
