VALLEY — The Valley High School baseball team’s race for an area title hits the homestretch on Tuesday.

The Rams will play at Beauregard in the first game of a pivotal Class 5A, Area 5 series, which both squads enter with undefeated area records.

On the line will be the area championship and hosting rights for the upcoming state playoffs.

The Rams (14-10) come into the series on a six-game winning streak that dates to March 27. They won three games at the Lake Martin Classic before completing a three-game sweep of fellow area foe Booker T. Washington on Monday.

According to head coach Patrick Shivers, this is the first time in more than a decade that Valley has won six consecutive contests.

Shivers said he plans to start senior Coby McDonald in the opening game against Beauregard. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. EDT.

Valley will then host Beauregard on Thursday for the second and potential third game.

The Rams knocked off the Hornets in 2017 to win the program’s first area championship in more than 20 years. Now, they will try to do it again.
