LANETT — The Valley High School golf teams welcomed Benjamin Russell and Auburn to the Point University Golf Club for home matches on Thursday afternoon.
Under still, sunny conditions, the Rams and Lady Rams posted scores of 193 and 179, respectively.
Benjamin Russell won the boys match by posting a team score of 179. Auburn won the girls match by carding a team score of 159.
“Days like these are great days because it’s low pressure,” Valley head coach Mike Power said. “We’re playing on our home course; we know the course, so it’s a good time just to play some golf and enjoy the beautiful day.”
Trevor Harry was the low scorer for the Valley boys. The senior carded a 5-over 41 through nine holes. Bradley Nelson (48), Cameron Cotton (52) and Wyatt Smith (52) also contributed to Valley’s team score.
Dallas Duncan was the low scorer for the Valley girls. She posted a 14-over 50 through nine holes.
Isabel Boddie (64) and Sage Jackson (65) rounded out the team total.
“The kids are doing really good,” Power said. “It’s kind of neat to watch. Some kids that I wouldn’t have thought would have the opportunity to step up have stepped up and played some good golf.”
One example is Matthew Allen, a first-year player who on Tuesday led the Valley boys to a one-stroke match victory over Beauregard, 199-200.
Valley will face Beauregard again next Thursday when it returns to competition at the Point Golf Club.
