LANETT — Mayor Kyle McCoy met with Angie Spates and her attorney on Thursday.
“She asked for a meeting to go over some things and to be given a clarification,” McCoy told The Valley Times-News. “It was cordial, but nothing has changed at this point,”
McCoy said that he and fellow council members will be discussing the matter further at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the council, which takes place at 6 p.m. EDT on Monday, June 4. They won’t be meeting on May 21 because several council members will be out of town at a League of Municipalities meeting.
Spates was placed on administrative leave on April 24. She had been the police chief in Lanett since 2011 and had been reappointed twice when new administrations were sworn into office in 2012 and 2016.
Major Johnny Wood has been serving as interim chief during her absence.
