LaFAYETTE — Joseph Patterson Boyd passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018. Mr. Boyd was born in Auburn, Ala. on November 22, 1937. He was the son of the late Mr. Joseph Henry Boyd and Mrs. Carrie Allen Boyd of LaFayette, Ala.

Joe was a 1955 graduate of LaFayette High School. Shortly after graduation he served four years in the U.S. Navy. After leaving the military, he worked in and helped manage his father’s store – Germany & Boyd – in LaFayette, until 1967. He worked as a draftsman at The Auburn University Extension Service until 1973, when he became a salesman for Gayfer’s department store in Auburn, Ala. In 1974-1980 Joe worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a surveyor.

He worked for the Chambers County Highway Department 1980-81, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Benning, Ga., DeSoto, Kansas, McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas, and Fort Belvoir in Virginia until he retired.  After his wife Paulene retired, they both moved to Cartersville, Ga, to be near their grandson.  He had a special fondness for University of Alabama football and also for animals. The last several years Joe had lived in Opelika, Ala. until the time of his passing.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Paulene Abney Boyd; his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Boyd, his brothers, James Patterson, and Weldon Patterson, and his sister, Peggy Connick.

Mr. Boyd is survived by his sons Joseph Michael Boyd, and Timothy Alan Boyd; and his granddaughter Maxine LeAnne Clements, and his grandson, Reese Alan Boyd.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 2 p.m. CDT at Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette,
