MR. RALPH WALKER

LANETT — Mr. Ralph Sloman Walker, 94, of Lanett, Ala. passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Diversicare of Lanett.

Mr. Walker is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Walker; his parents, John and Nannie Lou Walker; his four brothers, Ernest Walker, Carlton Walker, Jimmy Walker and John Lewis Walker; his two sisters, Katherine Walker Bassett and Mary Lou Nabors; and his special niece, Tennie Lou Greene.

Mr. Walker was born on October 4, 1923 in Dadeville, Ala.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawmut.  Mr. Walker was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal w/Bronze Star, the American Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.  Mr. Walker was employed with the West Point Manufacturing Company from 1941 to 1943. He later became the owner of Walker and Walker Sheet Metal until his retirement. He was an avid Alabama fan who greatly enjoyed teasing his great niece and her husband, Kathy and Kenny Knox, about Auburn and Alabama games.  He lived in the Shawmut community until he moved to Diversicare of Lanett.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 2 p.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley, Ala. The Rev. Chuck Anderson will officiate.  Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
