VALLEY — Mrs. Lavonia Tatum Osborn, 85, of Valley, Ala. died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at EAMC-Lanier Hospital in Valley.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. CDT, Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the Abanda Methodist Church in Abanda, Ala. with burial to follow at the Tatum Family Cemetery in the Milltown community with the Rev. Mark Rasbury and the Rev. Mark McGhee officiating.
Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 12 noon until 2 p.m. CDT prior to the service.
Mrs. Osborn was born in Abanda, Ala. on April 28, 1933 to the late Frank and Clara Allums Tatum. She was a very active member of the Abanda Methodist Church, where she had over 50 years of perfect attendance. She was a dedicated woman of faith who loved God, family, church and community. As an active participant in the community, she was a member of the Quest Club in Wadley, Ala., The Red Hat Society, and the Chambers County Homemakers Club. Early in her career, Lavonia worked as an LPN at Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley. She and her husband, Fred, were co-owners of Abanda Grocery in Abanda, where she was self-employed before going to work at Playtex in LaFayette, Ala.
She later went to work with Chambers County School System, working at South Side Middle School, Chambers County High School, and East Side Elementary where she retired.
She is survived by one daughter, Cherie (Tim) McCain of Valley; one son, Glenn (Alison) Osborn of Valley; four grandchildren, Brent Osborn, Caleb Osborn, Ruslan McCain, and Leah McCain, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Fred Osborn; a daughter, Angela Renee Osborn, and her sister, Genette Aikens.
Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette, Ala. is in charge of the arrangements.
