VALLEY — Officials have released the name of the man killed Saturday afternoon following a property dispute.

Troy Dwight Boyd, 31, of Lanett, was shot and killed Saturday, Police Chief Tommy Weldon said.

Weldon added that his officers responded to a call about a shooting that occurred in the 1400 block of Hopewell Road in Valley on Saturday at about 3:58 p.m.

“The shot severed an artery in Boyd’s neck,” he said.

As of Monday afternoon no arrests had been made, as officers had yet to determine whether the shooter was acting in self-defense.

“In a case like this you want to interview everyone and then make your determination,” Weldon said. “At this time, we just don’t know yet.”

What officers have determined is that Boyd, along with three others including the shooter, were at the residence when an argument broke out. Boyd was shot with a .38-caliber revolver and one of the two others present immediately called 911.

“Detectives are still interviewing people,” Weldon said. “Hopefully in a day or so we will have what we need to make a decision.”

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, the name of the shooter had not been released as of Monday afternoon.

Further developments will be reported as they come in.
