ATLANTA — Mr. Robert S. Thomas, 68, of Atlanta, Ga. and formerly of Lanett, Ala. passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Wellstar Medical Center South, Atlanta, Ga.

Mr. Thomas was born November 16, 1949 in Lanett. Robert received his education in the Lanett City School System and was a member of the graduating class at Lanier High School in 1967. During high school, Robert was known for his athleticism. He was a standout fullback for the Lanier High Lions football team.

Robert retired from the Atlanta Gas Light Company with twenty-five years of service.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Willie C. Thomas and a sister, Annie Lou Meadows.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Celia Thomas, Atlanta; two sons, Maceo (Angela) Thomas, Macon, Ga. and Christopher Thomas, Atlanta; one daughter, Erica Thomas, Atlanta; three sisters, Betty Ann (Rev. Walter) Walker, Wichita, Kansas, Lillie Mae Thomas, Lanett and Liz Foster, Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Eddie B. (Dorothy) Thomas, Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service for Mr. Thomas will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 1 p.m. EDT at the Evening Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Elijah Jackson, Jr., pastor, presiiding. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday, June 16, 2016 from noon until the funeral hour. The family can be contacted at the residence of Ms. Lillie Mae Thomas, 625 North 14th Avenue in Lanett.
