LANETT — Everyone is invited to a fun and educational event that will be taking place at the W.O. Lance Elementary playground from 3 to 9 p.m. EDT on Friday, June 29. Team WHIP will be hosting a Mardi Gras for Ta-Tas. There will be jumpers for the kids, and the Lanett Fire Department will be there to cool them off on a hot day with water spray.
On site food vendors will include Mary’s Wraps, the Grub food truck, Sonia’s Sweets & Treats and State Senate candidate Darrell Turner, who will have his Indian-style roasted corn.
There will also be a cake walk. For a $2 ticket, entrants will have chances to win homemade cakes. Bingo will be taking place as well. With the purchase of a one-dollar ticket, everyone taking part is guaranteed to win a prize.
Among the vendors will be a local person who makes homemade pillows.
There will also be tents set up where healthcare professionals will be offering advice on the importance of having mammograms and being aware of the early signs of possible breast cancer.
“This is the first time we’ve attempted something like this,” said Sonia Adams, team organizer for WHIP, which stands for Working to Help Those in Pink. “We just want to get the word out there in a positive way that people can be aware of breast cancer and be knowledgeable of early detection.
This is a free event for the community, and we want people to get outside the walls, and have a good time.”
