There will be a Title I meeting tonight at 5:00 PM ET at the Bob Harding Shawmut Elementary School Lunchroom.

The Valley High School Combined Classes will meet at 4 p.m. EDT on Monday, August 6th at Bradshaw-Chambers County Library in Valley. Anyone who graduated from Valley High is welcome to attend.

Diversicare is looking for volunteers to assist with small and large group activites, Monday through Friday and some weekends. For more information contact Melinda Joseph at 334-644-1111.

› The Chambers County Farmers Federation will hold its annual meeting on Aug. 20 at noon CDT at the Farmers Federation Building in LaFayette. There will be a business meeting followed by a cookout. There is no charge and there will be door prizes. Alfa members are encouraged to attend.

Ballroom Dance Lessons are held weekly at The Active Life in LaGrange from 7-8 p.m. $100 per couple for a 5 – week session.  The next session will begin Thursday, Aug. 30th.  For more information contact Cody Wayne Foote at 334-663-2408. Monthly Ballroom Dance will be held Friday, Aug. 10th at The Active Life in LaGrange from 8 p – 10 p.  A complimentary Cha Cha lesson begins at 7 p.  $20.00 per couple. Five Points School will conduct registration for all grades (K-8) on Monday, August 6, from 1:30 until 5:30 p.m. CDT. Parents are invited to complete their children’s registration paperwork and meet the teachers and new principal. Refreshments will be served.

› The Touched by Suicide Support Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. CDT (6:30 Eastern) on Monday, August 6th at the East Alabama Medical Center Health Education Center, located at 2027 Peppered Parkway, Opelika (across from the hospital). This is  an informal group made up of caring individuals whose lives have been touched by the suicide of a family member or friend.

› The 20th annual Shawmut School Reunion will be taking place at W.O. Kent Recreation Center (Shawmut gym) on Saturday, Aug. 11. Sign-in and registration starts at 10 a.m. EDT with lunch being served at noon. There will be a 50/50 raffle and door prizes will be awarded. Chicken fingers will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish or a side dish.

› The 95th reunion of the descendants of the late Thomas and Nancy Winn Terry will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4 in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church in Lanett. Some local family members will gather around 10 a.m. EDT to open the doors and get things in order and ready to receive an abundance of delicious food brought by others attending. › The Lanett High Class of 1966 will have a reunion on Saturday, Aug. 11. From 2 to 4 p.m. EDT, there will be a meet and greet in the school library and a tour of the school. The fellow alumni will then have dinner at Sunny’s Restaurant in Valley. For information, contact Sheila Vickers Mason at (770) 914-2150.

› The Valley Farmers’ Market is open from 3 to 6 p.m. EDT every Friday afternoon through the growing season. There will be up to ten Alabama farmers there this Friday with such items as peaches, tomatoes, collards, squash, zucchini, red potatoes, watermelons, cantaloupes, rattlesnake beans and baked bread.

› The August meetings of the Chambers County Commission are set for Monday, August 6, 2018 and Monday, August 27, 2018. The meetings will begin at 4 p.m. CDT (5 Eastern) in the commission chamber located inside the county courthouse in LaFayette. The Commission’s Human Resources Committee will meet at 2 p.m. CDT at the courthouse on Monday, Aug. 6. The Lanett City Council will meet at 6 p.m. EDT on Monday, August 6 and at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 20. The Valley City Council will meet at 6 p.m. EDT on Monday, Aug. 13 and at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 27.

› The West Point Active Life Center is a recreation center for independent adults who are at least 55 years of age. Lunch is provided five days a week for those who are 60 and older. There’s also activities, games, billiards, quilting, exercise classes, trips and every Wednesday, FREE BINGO at 10:30 a.m. EDT. The Active Life Center serves West Point and the surrounding area.

› The Christian Service Center is open from 8 a.m. till noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. It’s open on Tuesdays by appointment and from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. To apply for assistance, you will need to bring your current electric bill and a photo ID. The Center is currently accepting donations of children’s clothing that’s in good condition.
