Huguley News: Getting ready for the new school year

Hello Huguley friends! Glad to see you made it through the Tax Free weekend! We did a little shoe shopping that weekend, but actually were glad we needed no school supplies! It was a madhouse! On that note, please be on the lookout this week as all the little kids will be back in school.
They get so excited the first few weeks of school, but that excitement often wanes after they have to comeback after the Labor Day holiday. They will be expending pent up energy after school and will be out and about on bikes, skateboards or whatever. As my grandmamma used to tell us, “Ya’ll be particular.”
The Lanett Masonic Lodge 656 invited all of the family members and Eastern Star members to come and enjoy supper with them on Tuesday night. Some 25 or so people enjoyed the sandwich and dessert supper and fellowship together.
I don’t know if all this rain has messed with your yards or not, but, we have surely got a mess on our hillside. It is washing like mad! They came around a few months ago and added crusher run to the edges of our street. All of ours is now down at the bottom of the hill and we have a trench probably 40 feet long that runs in front of our yard. Sure makes a mess when it rains!
It is time now to gear up for football season, little kids, junior high kids, varsity kids and college folks alike will be out in droves to watch their young folks. Don’t forget to cheer for their supporters: the band members that also give their all to support the school of choice, the cheer leaders, the flag corps and the mascots for all these schools. Please remember to support these kids as well. It takes them all to really offer folks the entire atmosphere of a football game. Support your teams!
What a treat it was last Monday to be in the family life center of Happy Valley Baptist Church. We partnered up with the Christian Service Center for a huge clothing give away. Man, it was great, we had all sorts of folks to take advantage of receiving the clothing. I am sure it made getting ready for the first of school easier on folks. All the clothing was either new (with tags) or had been gently loved by someone before. This is an event we get top help with maybe twice a year and it is so much fun.
Well, I guess I am gonna close now. I thank all of you that tell me you read the columns every week. It would be better with your news here. Call me!
