Mr. Joseph “Bud” Hicks

WEST POINT — Mr. Joseph “Bud” Hicks, 73, of West Point, Ga. passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala. Mr. Hicks was born November 26, 1944 in Troup County, Ga.

Joseph was a member of the Emanuel Chapel CME Church in West Point. “Bud,” as he was known by many, received his education in the West Point City Schools. He was a member of the Harrison High School graduating class of 1962. During his high school years he was known as a stellar basketball player. After high school, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Army. While serving in the military, he was recognized for his basketball skill.

Mr. Hicks dedicated 32 years of service to B.F. Goodrich-Uniroyal, where he held a supervisor position for 22 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Deposie and Zola Mae Hicks.

He leaves his cherish memories his wife of 53 years, Ned L. Hicks of West Point; his children, Christopher (Danielle Howell) Hicks, Montgomery, Ala. and Jessica (Vakara) Story, Lanett, Ala.; grandchildren Dr. Simone Hicks, Rancho Cucamonga, Cal., Brandi Hicks, West Point, Zantavious Trammell, Columbus, Ga., Joseph Hicks, LaGrange, Ga., Quantico Hicks, West Point, and Senior Airman Christian Hicks, Valdosta, Ga.; great grandchildren Kennedy, Eli and Ava; four brothers, Tommie Lee Thomas, Grady Lee (Dorothy) Hicks, Ulysses (Cora) Hicks; Marvin Hicks; one sister, Doris Hicks Darden; special friends and family, Shirl Hicks, daughter- in-law; Willie B. Bailey, Wayne Jones, Mildred Scott and Rita Rowland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A homegoing celebration for Mr. Hicks will be held at noon EDT on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Emanuel Chapel CME Church with the Rev. C.J. Smith, pastor, pulpit conductor, Bishop Dr. Bertha Hicks Hodge, eulogist, Rev. Ricky Hayes, and Dr. W. T. Edmondson officiating. Interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour.

A private visitation for family members will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 6 to 7 p.m. EDT at the M. W. Lee Mortuary. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to Emanuel Chapel CME Church, P.O. Box 28, West Point, GA in memory of Mr. Hicks.
