› The Chambers County Commission’s Rules, Ways and Means Committee will meet at 8 a.m. CDT on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018 in the commission office located in the courthouse in downtown LaFayette.

› Registration for math and reading tutoring will take place at 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 5 and 6 at the L.B. Sykes Community Center on Cherry Drive in Lanett. Free math and reading tutoring will be provided to students in grades three through six. This is not a drop-in program. Students are assigned a time with a retired teacher or professional to improve their math or reading skills on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Middle and high school students may also request an assigned tutoring time. Please bring the student’s last progress report to registration. › The Qui Vive Civic Club will meet Tuesday, September 11th at 5 p.m. at the Lanett Senior Citizens Center.  This is the first meeting of the club’s calendar year.  Each member is asked to bring a covered dish of your choice.  Mrs. Corinthian Woody is the president.

› The 26th Annual River View School Reunion will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 starting at 10 a.m. EDT at the historic River View School. Lunch will be at 1 p.m. Charles Story will be singing.

› The Chambers County School District is currently seeking to locate, identify, and evaluate children with disabilities from birth to age 21. Eligible participants for special services may include those with hearing, visual, orthopedic, speech and language impairments, as well as children with intellectual, emotional, or learning disabilities and other health impairments. Parents or relatives of children with disabilities not currently being served should call Diane Sherriff at 334-864-9343, extension 10203, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. CDT.

› Bradshaw Library will kick off their adult fall programming with a Lunch N Learn, “Alabama: The History of a Deep South State” featuring speaker Dr. Wayne Flynt on Wednesday, Sept 5 at noon EDT.  Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. by reservation only.  Call (334) 768-2161 by Sept 3 to make a FREE lunch reservation.

Cafe’ Connections at Bradshaw Library begins on Sept 20 at 10:30 a.m. with a Fall Flix viewing of “I Can Only Imagine” (PG).  Enjoy a free movie, drinks and popcorn on us!  Bring a friend! No reservation is required.

› A meeting of the Chambers County Recreational Board of Directors will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. EDT (5:30 Central). This is the rescheduled meeting originally planned for Aug. 2. It will be taking place in the Cattlemen’s Association Building at the Chambers County Agricultural Park in LaFayette.

› Moms of preschoolers, are you looking for coffee and uninterrupted conversation with other mothers? Please join us for MOPS at Lanett First Church of the Nazarene on Thursday September 6 at 10:00 A.M. You do not have to be a church member to attend. Childcare will be provided for ages 0-4. › The Kiwanis Club of West Point meets regularly the second Monday of each month at noon at Momma Goldberg’s and the fourth Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Momma Goldberg’s in historic downtown West Point. Join us and see what Kiwanis is planning in West Point and Lanett. Newcomers are welcome!

› A monthly dementia support group meets at 6:30 p.m. EDT on the first Tuesday of the month at the Chattahoochee Hospice office, located at 6 Medical Park N0rth in Valley. A monthly grief support group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday at the Hospice office. For more information, call (334) 756-8043.

› The West Point Active Life Center is a recreation center for independent adults who are at least 55 years of age. Lunch is provided five days a week for those who are 60 and older. There’s also activities, games, billiards, quilting, exercise classes, trips and every Wednesday, FREE BINGO at 10:30 a.m. EDT. The Active Life Center serves West Point and the surrounding area.

› The Interfaith Food Closet helps families with emergency food. Located on 20th Avenue behind the Langdale United Methodist Church, it’s open each week day, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9-11:30 a.m. EDT; Tuesday and Thursday 1-4 p.m. and Wednesday 5:30-6:30 p.m. Each person must have proof of residence and a photo ID.
