Lanett remains at No. 1, LaFayette stays in latest top 10

Five of the six schools from the Greater Valley Area either received votes or were ranked in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) prep football rankings.

Last week, every team in the area was featured but after a 14-7 loss to Greenville, Valley fell out of the 5A schools receiving votes position. The Rams hosts Carroll this Friday.

Beulah still finds itself on the outside looking in on the 3A rankings after improving to 4-0 last week. Despite the victory over Prattville Christian, one thing to monitor with the Bobcats is the fact that star senior linebacker Caden Dowdell was on the sidelines in a walking boot last Friday night.

2A No. 9 LaFayette remains in the top 10 after a 18-14 loss on the road at 2A No. 5 Thorsby. The Bulldogs schedule doesn’t become less challenging, as LaFayette takes a trip to 2A No. 3 Reeltown this week.

1A No. 1 Lanett remains at the top position after a 48-0 win over Autaugaville last week. Panthers senior safety Trikweze Bridges pulled down his 31st career interception in the game, which pulled him within five of tieing Quinton Craig’s state record of 36 that he set in 1987.

AISA No. 4 Chambers Academy remains at its position after extending its regular season winning streak to 29 games. The Rebels are hosting rival-school Springwood this week. The Wildcats received votes after losing to AISA No. 2 Autauga Academy 63-0 last Friday. Springwood began the season with a 2-0 record and were ranked No. 10 after the start earlier this year.
