› Fairfax Masonic Lodge No. 876 will meet at 7 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, Oct. 23. All officers and members are asked to by present to discuss plans for the anniversaroy program and the Dec. 6th Christmas parade.

› The Chambers County Commission’s Rules, Ways and Means Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. EDT (8:30 a.m. Central time) on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the law office of County Attorney Skip McCoy in Lanett.

› This year’s Farm-City Tours will be taking place on Friday, November 9th.  To register, contact the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce at (334) 642-1411 or www.greatervalleyarea.com. It will begin with an 8 a.m. EDT breakfast at the Hampton Inn &  Suites in Lanett, followed by a tour of the WestRock plant in the Huguley Industrial Park. Attendees will also see a demonstration by the Chambers County K-9 unit. After a break for lunch, the tour will go to Langley Farms near LaFayette. The tour will conclude at the Hampton Inn at 3 p.m.

› A fish fry and bake sale will be held in the Standing Rock community on Saturday, Oct. 27th. Plates are $10 each and will have catfish fillets, cole slaw, hush puppies and French fries. › The Valley Lions Club will have a chickencue on Saturday, Oct. 27th. Plates may be picked up from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. EDT at Bob Harding-Shawmut Elementary School. Each plate will include half a chicken, cole slaw, chips and two pieces of bread. Brooms and mops will be on sale as well. Tickets are $7 each and can be gotten from any member of the club.

› On Tuesday, Oct 23 at 12 p.m., Bradshaw Library will host a Lunch N Learn presentation, “It Came in Like a Cyclone: Alabama and the 1918 Influenza.” Valley Pharmacy will be offering flu shots from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. by reservation only. 

› Come to Bradshaw Library on Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m. for a Café Connections event, “Thanks a Latte: Veteran Appreciation Mix & Mingle.” Visit with our local veterans and library patrons, share a cup of coffee and enjoy a relaxing morning at the library. Bring a friend.

› Team WHIP will be having its fourth annual breast cancer walk at 2 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Oct. 28th. It starts at the John D. Hoggs Pavilion (next to Givorns in West Point). It’s free, and registration starts at 1:15 p.m. Cancer survivors are encouraged to participate. Vendors will be on site. › Fredonia Heritage Day will be taking place at the Fredonia Community Clubhouse on Saturday, Nov. 3. There will be live music performed on a stage all day long, lots of food vendors, bake and cake walks, terrific holiday shopping with arts and crafts vendors, local history in the Community House, pet adoption, a Yeti cooler door prize and much more.

› The Interfaith Food Closet helps families with emergency food. Located on 20th Avenue behind the Langdale United Methodist Church, it’s open each week day, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9-11:30 a.m. EDT; Tuesday and Thursday 1-4 p.m. and Wednesday at 5:30.
