FREDONIA — The tenth annual Fredonia Heritage Day is less than two weeks away. It will be taking place on the grounds of the Fredonia Community Club on Saturday, Nov. 3. For its tenth anniversary milestone, the Fredonia Heritage Association has put together an event to bring back several old favorites and feature some notable newcomers.

This year’s theme for Heritage Day is “Our People.” This is in keeping with the state of Alabama’s three-year bicentennial celebration. The first-year theme was Our Place, and the final year, in 2019, will be Our Story. The year will mark the centennial anniversary of the Club House, as well as the nearby New Hope Church Rosenwald School.

A highlight of Fredonia Heritage’s salute to Our People will be the honoring of groups that serve the Fredonia area. Included are first responders such as fire, medical and law enforcement, armed service veterans, and youth groups such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and Jr. Ambassadors from the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.

Entertainment will be continuous starting at 10:30 a.m. EDT with bluegrass, gospel, blues and country.

Popular favorites returning include Amber and the Dixieland Bluegrass and noted blues man Jontavious Willis.

New this year will be the renowned James Brown Trio, as well as Sanders Family Gospel and the Allen Family.

A wide variety of both crafts and food will offer Christmas shopping and plenty of good things for hungry appetites.

“We’ve got traditional favorites like fried fish, funnel cakes, fried pies and unique items such as deer burgers and hot dogs,” said Fredonia Heritage President JJ Frickert.

A colorful handmade, heirloom quilt will again be offered via a drawing at the festival. The quilt, measuring 63-inches by 80-inches, is the Under the Water pattern. Tickets at $2 each or 3 for $5 are available from any Fredonia Heritage Board member to Jam-N-Java Bakery, West Point, Belcher’s Jewelery, Lanett, or Antiques & Uniques, Fredonia.

A Yeti cooler will be given as a door prize near the end of the event. Free tickets for the Yeti will be available at the welcome desk that day.
