The more things change, the more things stay the same.

Lanett and Chambers Academy have kept their  positions in the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) rankings as the representatives for the Greater Valley Area.

The Panthers of Lanett come into next week’s playoffs as the 1A No.1-ranked team. Lanett ended the regular season with 42-0 shut out over Billingsley, which was the team’s third-consecutive shutout to end the regular season. Senior safety Trikweze Bridges grabbed an interception in the win, which solidified his place as the second all-time state leader in career interceptions with 34 picks of his own. The Panthers are projected to host Florala next week in the first round.

Chambers Academy remains the No. 3-ranked AISA team this week after completing its third-straight undefeated regular season two weeks ago against Marengo Academy. This season’s Rebel defense has allowed the fewest points in school history, led by junior linebacker Braxton Allen. On offense, Chambers has been powered by first-year starting quarterback Payton Allen and electric running back C.J. Lyons.

The LaFayette Bulldogs remain the lone team from the Greater Valley Area that at least received votes in the prep polls. LaFayette ended the regular season with five-straight wins. The team is led by Quabo Boston-Gaines and Jae’lin McCurdy. The Bulldogs are currently in the midst of an open week, but are currently projected to travel to play at 6-3 Geneva County next Friday.
