Mr. Carl Llewellyn Billingslea

LANETT — Mr. Carl Llewellyn Billinglsea, 59, of Lanett, Ala., departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018. He was born Dec. 5, 1958, the third youngest of eight and baby boy to John L. (deceased) and Mary C. Billingslea.

Carl, affectionately known as “Wellon” by his family, had been a member of the St. John Community Baptist Church since he accepted Christ at an early age. He graduated from Five Points High School in 1976. After graduation, he attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala., where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1980. Carl moved to Pittsburgh, Pa., where he worked in management at both McDonald’s and Kroger stores and finally at the Monroeville Convention Center. Carl eventually decided to move back south to Atlanta, GA, where he worked many years for Orkin Pest Control. He later became an independent contractor for Poole’s Pest Control, until he became disabled.

Carl’s hobbies were many. He enjoyed collecting and playing with remote control cars, restoring old cars, watching informative television, especially the History Channel) and spending time with relatives and friends. He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and loving mother, Mary C. Billingslea, Lanett; two brothers, Thermond Billingslea, Lanett, and John L.(Martez) Billingslea, Jr., Brandywine, Md.; five sisters, Jarves Palmer, Lanett, Marion (Ben) Braswell, Fayetteville, Ga., Judy (Fred) Sams, Pittsburgh, Pa., Darlene (James) Ford, Fayetteville, Ga. and Aleatha (Rami) Gibson, Tyrone, Ga. and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Billingslea will be held at 1 p.m. EDT, Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at St. John Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Dowdell officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 from 12 noon until the funeral hour.
