The Valley Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened early Friday morning.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Greenberry Circle at approximately 4:10 a.m. where they discovered that Maurice Clark, 40, of Valley has been shot one time in the shoulder, according to a press release.

The release states that Clark told officers that he was sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle talking to a female when someone started tapping on the window. When he turned around, Clark told police he saw a black male in his mid-thirties with dreadlocks and a brown jacket pointing a pistol at him. Clark said that he moved to shield the female when the suspect fired approximately three shots into the vehicle, striking Clark once in the shoulder.

After firing, the suspect fled the scene and is still at large.

Clark told officers that he did not know the suspect but that he had seen him before and knew that he goes by the name β€œTae.”

Preliminary information gathered by police revealed that this incident was probably not random and that the shooter may be an ex-boyfriend of the female in the vehicle with Clark.

Clark was taken to EAMC in Opelika by EAFD EMS for his injury.
