Valleywide Christmas Parade was a great success

The Valleywide Christmas Parade has come and gone for 2018, and we are still talking about the job done by those in the community who worked extremely hard to get everything done.
We commend everybody who put in countless hours organizing the event. Everyone did a great job — from the Valleywide Christmas Parade Committee to the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, and to all those businesses and organizations that designed and decorated a float
A special shoutout to the bands from area schools that braved the cold weather to entertain all of us on the street.
The entire event was a pleasure all the way to the big guy in the red suit at the end of the parade.
Further congratulations go out to all the winners from the parade.
Acts Academy took first place in the school category, followed by Fairfax Elementary and Chambers Academy respectively.
Holy Family received first place in the community category, with the Upper Room Church and Early Star Lodge coming in second and third.
In the business category, East Alabama Medical Center took first place with an impressive Polar Express float. Circle of Care came in second place, and Norbord took third.
Regardless of who won the prizes this past Thursday, everybody deserves credit for taking the time to be a part of such an important event for the region.
It’s not often thousands of people fill the streets of downtown West Point, Lanett and Valley for one event.
We also know that people look forward to this event as soon as the weather starts getting cold — or possibly as soon as the prior year’s parade is finished.
We felt it was essential to take the time to thank everybody who was involved in the process of putting the parade on, participating in the actual parade and taking time out of their busy time to attend the event.
We can’t wait until next year.
