LaFAYETTE — The resilient Lanett girls basketball team earned a 50-46 comeback victory against LaFayette on Friday night.

“With my girls tonight, the difference was poise,” Lanett girls head basketball coach Charlie Williams said. “Earlier in the season, we didn’t show poise, but we showed it tonight.”

Lanett senior Makyia Broughton led the Panthers with 20 points, while sophomore Alyse Madden added 11 in the effort. Jaci Howell, Jayla Higgins, Alicia Abner, Breanna Glaze and Crystalyn Sprayberry also got on the board for Lanett in the win. 

With the Panthers missing senior guard Ambria Jackson for the rest of the season, Williams said that Broughton has taken her play to another level to keep the team going.

“She’s taken the mantle and said, ‘Alright, Coach. I got you,’” Williams said. “I’ll take the ball and I’ll run the team. That’s the difference right now. Earlier in the season, she was just trying to play. with everybody else. Now, she’s taking, and saying, ‘I got you, Coach.’”

Friday night marked the second-consecutive game that sophomore Ebony Williams led the team in scoring when she finished with 22 for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Feliah Greer finished with a double-double of 14 points and an unofficial count of 20 rebounds. Alahbra’J Todd and Nadya Heard also got on the board for LaFayette in the effort.

Although the loss gave the Bulldogs a 15-5 overall record, the team is still undefeated in area play, hosting Woodland next Thursday. The Panthers return to action at home against Booker T. Washington on Saturday.
