Two individuals were arrested Tuesday because the vehicle they were in was reported stolen out of North Berwick, Maine — about a 19-hour drive from Troup County, Georgia.

According to a Troup County Sheriff’s Office press release, the TCSO stopped a 2011 KIA Soul on Whitesville Road near Interstate 85 at 3:54 p.m. Both occupants in the vehicle, Nicholas Milton and Shelby Wakefield, were arrested without incident.

Sgt. Stewart Smith said the TCSO received information that the vehicle may be traveling through Troup County Tuesday on its way to Florida. One of the deputies happened to spot it and pulled it over.

Wakefield’s father reported the vehicle stolen out of Maine in December, according to Smith.

Milton and Wakefield were charged with theft by receiving (felony) and theft by bringing stolen property into the state (felony).  Milton was additionally charged with driving while license suspended.

Smith said the vehicle will be held until either the agency or the victim make arrangements to pick the vehicle up.
