MOBILE — Local professional photographer Dave Shirley of Dave Shirley Photography Studio, in Lanett recently spoke to the Gulf Coast Professional Photographers Association of Mobile.

Dave spoke on the best ways to photograph high school seniors. He also led a photography safari to demonstrate the techniques he discussed.

“We went over how to use studio lighting for outdoor senior sets,” Shirley said. “We also talked about the different poses for male high school seniors.”

The group met on the campus of Spring Hill College, a local Jesuit school. Spring Hill College and Stewart Field served as backdrops for the safari. The group then proceeded to meet in downtown Mobile where they used several local historic locations.

“These locations included the Mobile Phoenix Fire Museum and the Mobile City Auditorium,” Shirley said. “While there, we were able to use many settings in the old downtown area for a photography class. Settings included the famous old fire station, rusty old walls and wrought iron railings located in the downtown area. Our group enjoyed learning the new techniques taught, and all of us came away with a new eye for photographing in new and different locations.”
