Mrs. Agnes Hollis Rodgers

WEST POINT — Mrs. Agnes Hollis Rodgers, 90, of West Point passed away Friday Feb. 8, 2019, at Florence Hand Nursing Home in LaGrange Ga. She went peacefully to Heaven with family by her side.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at 11 a.m. EST at St John’s Episcopal Church in West Point with the Rev. Mark McGee officiating. Her grandson, Greg Panzer, will deliver the eulogy. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service hour of 11 a.m. The interment will be held immediately following the funeral service at Marseilles Cemetery in West Point.

Survivors include her children, David Edwin Rodgers (Sandra), Sue Harp (Jim), and Janice Panzer; her grandsons, James Huneycutt, Elex (Melissa) Huneycutt, Greg Panzer and Steven Rodgers; her granddaughter, Amy; her great-grandsons Liam Huneycutt, Conor, Cullen, and Cayden Huneycutt; and her brothers, Harold (Jo) Hollis, and Bill (Ann) Hollis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Amos James Rodgers; her sisters, Betty Bryson, Barbara Edwards, and Evelyn Miles, and her grandsons, James Panzer and Scott Rodgers.

The life of Agnes Hollis Rodgers began on March 8, 1928, in Tallapoosa, Georgia. The daughter of Lillie Ree Camp and Elijah David Hollis, Agnes was the eldest of six children. A few months after her 16th birthday, she got her first job in the cotton mills. While going to school, working, and taking care of her family, she graduated from Center High School in 1947. A few months later, she married the love of her life, Amos Rodgers, on Nov 7. She worked in retail stores such as J.C. Penney, Tot and Teen, and Hengstler’s in West Point while being a devoted wife and mother to three children. She was most passionate about her faith and family, and she enjoyed genealogical research, gospel music and maintaining her home. In her later years, she is most known by the community for being seen working in her yard on Avenue C.
