Mrs. Martha T. McCurty

LANETT — Mrs. Martha T. McCurty, 78, of Lanett passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019 at Diversicare Health Care Center, Lanett. Mrs. McCurty was born July 16, 1940 in Chambers County.

Martha was a faithful member of the TLC Outreach Ministries until declining health. She retired from WestPoint Stevens as a textile operator.

In February 1958, Martha met and married Joe McCurty, who preceded her in death. She will be mostly remembered as a leader, teacher, counselor, cool nurse, friend, encourager and a prayer warrior. She was known to many as “Thunder Mamma.”

Mrs. McCurty was preceded in death by a loving daughter, Angela LaGail Robinson; seven brothers, Hoover Truitt, Eugene Trammell Sr., Odis Trammell, Alwyn Trammell, Homer Trammell, Aaron Trammell Sr., and Walter Lee Trammell; three sisters, Susie Hill, Mary Trammell Hooks and Patricia Ann Trammell Jackson.

She leaves to cherish loving memories to her six beautiful children, Eddie Joe McCurty, Kathey Diann Joiner, Beverlyn (Jeffery) Jackson, Freddie (Larry) Williams, Frederick (Cassandra) McCurty, and Latanua Harris; 15 grandchildren, Melvin, Jerome, Joy, Robert, Sharon, Shanae, Michelle, Undrea, Jeremiah, Jemere, Catrina, Kearea, Samone, Joel and Levintae; five siblings, Earnestine (Charlie) Bailey, Jacquelyne Trammell, Connie (Jimmy) Hall, Nevelyn Pittman, Wendell (Joy) Trammell; nine-in-laws, Lillie Trammell, Edna Hines, James McCurty, Mattie Jones, Lela Burney, Mary Hayes, Martha M. Welch, Jackie Gill, and John McCurty; 28 great grands, 11 great-great grands and an array of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service for Mrs. McCurty will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019 at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of O.H. Ministries with Pastor Connie Hall serving as the eulogist, Pastor Carterris Tucker, pastor, Frederick Stanley, Elder Reginal Dunn and Apostle Willie Eva Hicks, assisting. The interment will take place in the Pine Hill Cemetery following the service. The remains will lie in state at O.H. Ministries on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019 from noon  until the funeral hour.
