LANETT — Mrs. Sara Nell “Peggy” Burton, 97, of Lanett passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019 at LaFayette Extended Care in LaFayette.

Mrs. Burton was born in Ridge Grove on June 26, 1921. She worked for the Batson­-Cook Construction Company, where she was a bookkeeper.  She also worked as a bookkeeper for the Burton­-Knox Tire Company.

She was a member of the Lanett First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Burton; son-­in­-law John Ward, and seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth B. Ward of Hoover, Ala.; grandsons John Douglas Ward, Jr., and William Christopher Ward, both of Tuscaloosa; nieces and nephews Thomas and Kelly Gardner, Kenny and Kathy Knox, and several other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 4 p.m. EST at Resthaven Cemetery.  The Rev. Ronnie Jordan will officiate.  The family will be receiving friends immediately following the graveside service.
