Police worked swiftly to solve case

One of the more unique crime stories this area has seen in recent years came to light on Friday, when a body was discovered in a creek near the Alfred Lyons Bridge in Lanett.
Little information was released at the time, as first responders worked for hours to retrieve the body from the water. On Monday, two men — Donald Freeman Kee Jr., 33, and Aaron Creed, 32 — were arrested for their involvement in the crime.
Both were charged with murder and will soon get their day in court.
On Wednesday, the identity of the victim was released, after getting some help from the community. Investigators were able to determine that Jeremy Fetner, 41, was the deceased individual found in the creek.
This is the kind of thing nobody wants to see in any community, especially in a small, tight-knit area like West Point or Lanett. Unfortunately, crime happens everywhere.
The good news is this incident showed the power of multiple law enforcement agencies working together. The West Point Police Department made the arrests and the Lanett Police Department and Lanett Fire Department led efforts to retrieve the victim’s body from the water. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is also investigating the case.
East Alabama Swift Water Rescue and the Valley Police Department also responded to the scene on Friday.
We thank all of them for their swift work in this case.
There are plenty of unanswered questions in this incident, but as those answers come to light we’ll publish updates. Unfortunately, there are likely some questions that will never be answered.
