Reverend Charles D. Hazel

BIRMINGHAM — Reverend Charles D Hazel, 90, of Birmingham passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019. He was born Dec. 24, 1928 in Columbus to James Cecil Hazel and Vernice Cooley Hazel Weaver. He graduated from Valley High School and Auburn University and received both a Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Divinity from Emory University.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Daniel Hazel; two children, Charles Hazel Jr. (Vicki) and Angela Hazel Milner (Bruce); four grandchildren, Charles (Chuck) Rudd, (Kelli), Matthew Milner, Angela Sciascia (Jeff), Rachel Mattioli (Brian) and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Joe Hazel and a sister, Janelle Sherrer.
Charles was a Methodist minister in the North Alabama Conference for 45 years, serving appointments at White Plains, Wadley, Five Points, Sycamore, Hanceville, East Lake Birmingham, Sandusky, Fairfield First, Hartselle First and Lester Memorial in Oneonta. He retired as a district superintendent of the Albertville District in 1994.
There will be a family only funeral and burial. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019 at 2 p.m. CST at Huffman United Methodist Church, Birmingham.
