Local track and field teams stand out at Auburn High School

AUBURN — Multiple local schools participated in the Auburn Early Bird track and field meet this past Saturday at Auburn High School. Both of the girls and boys teams from Beulah, LaFayette and Valley all participated, and every school had at least one athlete who enjoyed standout performances.

The LaFayette girls finished 10th overall with a total of 16.5 points. The Valley girls also finished in the top 22.

LaFayette sophomore tied for 25th place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.47 seconds, while LaFayette seventh-grader Toniya Collier finished the event tied for 29th overall with 13.72 seconds. Bulldogs sophomore, and reigning 2A girls state champion, Feliah Greer finished first overall in the shot put category with a heave of 36-2.75.

For the boys, Valley placed sixth overall as a team with 38 points, LaFayette placed 17th with 7.5 points and Beulah also finished in the top 22.

Valley senior DonReco Glaze finished 16th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.75 seconds. Valley sophomore Jacquez Trammell finished third in the high jump at 6-0, while LaFayette senior Ja’Quavian Boston-Gaines finished fifth in the same event at 6-0.

Boston-Gaines also finished 10th overall in the long jump at 19-6.

Trammell won the triple jump at 43-0. Valley senior Daniel Etherton placed fifth in the javelin at 147-6 and LaFayette senior Jae’Lin McCurdy placed 20th in the event at 116-11.

Beulah senior Isaiah Glidewell finished in the shot put with a heave of 42-11.25, LaFayette freshman Antavious Woody finished ninth at 41-11.5 and Valley senior Lamarious Thomas finished 17th at 38-1.75.

The Valley boys 4×100 finished sixth overall with a time of 44.44.

Multiple local teams, including Valley and LaFayette, return to the track this upcoming Saturday at Central.
