Easter will be a little brighter for 60 area children, thanks to the work of students in LaGrange College’s Circle K program.
Circle K, which is the collegiate branch of the Kiwanis Club, put together five dozen Easter baskets filled with candy, chocolate and cards and delivered them to the Boys and Girls Clubs of West Georgia and Chambers County office Monday. The baskets will be given to elementary school students this week.
“It’s good to give kids the opportunity to receive something for Easter when they may not otherwise be able to,” said Philip Maeser, president of the Circle K club.
Maeser said students from Emory University and Georgia Tech also helped put together the baskets. Members of the LaGrange Kiwanis Club and LaGrange Rotary Club also helped with the baskets, as did supplies from the college bookstore.
Last year, the group made 28 baskets, so the number more than doubled this year.
“It was fun to assemble them and know it’s going to a great cause,” said Emily Hughes, another Circle K member. “I know they’ll love it.”
Mikaela Wood, who also delivered the baskets, said it’s her favorite activity the club does each year.
“I can assure you these kids are going to go crazy in a good way over these baskets,” said Boys and Girls Club President Kevin Cain. “I can’t wait to see the look on their face when we hand these out.”
