A Cusseta man died in a single vehicle crash on Thursday night on Interstate 85.

The man was identified as Eric Lawler, 47, according to a press release from the Lanett Police Department. At approximately 9:35 p.m., members of the Lanett Police Department, Lanett Fire Department, EMS Department, Huguley Fire Department, and ALDOT were dispatched to I-85 south bound at the 73-mile marker in reference to a single vehicle traffic accident.

According to the press release, emergency personnel observed a large tree over the roadway and a vehicle in the wood line nearby. The tree that was in the roadway had fallen due to the storm that moved through just before the accident. It appears that Lawler’s vehicle struck the tree that was in the roadway thus causing a fatal injury.

Emergency personnel located the driver of the vehicle still inside of the vehicle. Chambers County Coroner Jeff Jones was notified and pronounced Lawler deceased on scene.
