Mr. Dave “Chin” Varner 1945-2019

LANETT — Mr. Dave “Chin” Varner Jr., 74, of Lanett, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2019, at his residence. Mr. Varner was born on Jan. 8, 1945, in Langdale to the late Jessie Mae and Dave Varner Sr. On Sunday, March 31, Dave was called to eternal rest.

At an early age, Dave accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church, Valley, Ala. He received his education in the Chambers County School System, where he was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Rehobeth High School.

On Oct. 8, 1966, Dave joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Mary Gilbert. To this union two children were born.

“Chin,” as he was known by many, retired from WestPoint Stevens after many years of service. He enjoyed working in his yard and was a good handyman for many. He always greeted you with a big smile on his face and would always give you a pleasant conversation. His southern way of talking was a part of his everyday life.

His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed spending quality time with them.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Mary G. Varner.

Dave leaves to cherish his memories his children, Timothy (Marsha) Varner Sr. and Monique (Christopher) Garner, both of Lanett; grandchildren Tia Varner, Maria Varner, Timothy Varner Jr., La’Miracle Varner, Edward Howard, David Varner and Isaiah Garner, all of Lanett; a great grandchild, Talia Varner, Lanett; brother, Dewey (Blanche) Varner, Apopka, Florida,; sister, Mary Sue Crim Davis, Valley; brother-in-law, George Gilbert, West Point; sisters-in-law Carrie (Arthur) Atkinson, Deborah Gilbert, Lanett, and Helen Gilbert, West Point and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including a dear one in John Hill.

Homegoing services for Mr. Varner will be held Friday, April 5 at 2 p.m. EDT from the sanctuary of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Valley, with the Rev. R.L. Carter, pastor, Rev. W.G. Kimberly, eulogist, and Dr. Raymond Cochran, Rev. Sam Marshall Jr. and Rev. Leonard Autry assisting.

The remains will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Lanett.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. Timothy and Mrs. Marsha Varner, 1412 South 9th Street, Lanett.
