MRs. Barbara Sara Bray Power

WEST POINT — Mrs. Barbara Sara Bray Power, 83, of West Point passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange. Mrs. Power was born in Rockmart, Georgia on Jan. 18, 1936, to the late Frank Bynon and Lula Mae Woodruff Bray.

Barbara graduated from Rosemont High School in LaGrange. After graduation, she attended nursing school at the Medical Center (City Hospital) in Columbus, Georgia, where she graduated on Sept. 12, 1957, along with her twin sister Betty Bray Russell with a three-year degree in registered nursing. Barbara faithfully served West Georgia Health Systems for 40 years and her legacy lives on.

In addition to her family and the WGHS family, Barbara and Tom were faithful members of Rosemont Baptist Church, where they could always be found teaching their precious 4 & 5-year-old class. Upon retiring from WGHS, Barbara continued to work for Hoofers Restaurant alongside her husband, brothers, and dear friends Rick and Bea Torrence until the restaurant’s closing many years later.

Barbara was an avid sports fan and would spend many hours cheering on her favorite teams: the University of Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Deborah Bailey and Tracy (Chuck) Bain; her son, Charles (Wendy) Power; grandchildren, Thomas Bailey, Amanda Green, Devin Power, Dillon Power, Taylor Ann Bain, and Anna Grace Bain; great grandchildren, Andrew and Caellum Bailey and Wyatt Chase; her twin sister, Betty Bray Russell and sister-in-law, Carol Bray.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F Power Jr.; parents, Frank and Lula Mae Bray Jr.; grandchildren, James and Nicole Pettus; her sister, Marion Smith and brothers, Jerry Bray and Frank Bray III.

The family will greet friends on Saturday April 6, 2019, from 10 a.m. until noon EDT at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett. Funeral services will follow visitation at 2 p.m. EDT at Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church in West Point. Interment will follow the service at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange. The Revs. Jeff McCartney and Max McCord will officiate. The family has asked that memorial donations be sent to the “Youth Fund” at Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church.
