The West Point Police Department is investigating two armed robbery incidents that appear to be related.

According to a news release from the WPPD, at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, West Point Police responded to the 700 block of 4th Avenue to an attempted armed robbery scene. The victims told police that a black male approached the victims while showing a silver handgun and demanded money. The suspect was described as being in his early 40s, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, a hat, blue jeans and a dark ski mask on his face.

When the victims advised they didn’t have any money, the black male walked away.

While officers were responding to that location, a second individual, walking in the 500 block of West 8th Street, about 100 yards from the first incident, was also contacted by a black male of the same description.

Police say the suspect brandished a similar silver handgun and obtained an undetermined amount of money from the victims before running away on foot behind the West Point Post Office and into Lanett.

The police department is asking for help identifying the suspects or any information about the incident. If anyone knows anything about this situation, they are encouraged to call West Point Police Investigations at (706) 645-3525 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000.
