Mrs. Doris Sims Langley — 1934-2019

CAMP HILL —  Mrs. Doris Sims Langley, 84, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019, at her home in Camp Hill.

Doris was born June 24, 1934, in Chambers County, the oldest of six children of the late William Curtis Sims Sr. and Mary Ellen Thomas Sims.

She was a graduate of Valley High School, Class of 1952, and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (later renamed Auburn University) in Dec. 1957 with a B.S. in English and a minor in Commercial Science. Doris was a member of Delta Zeta social sorority.

Her college roommate, Bernice Estes Williams, introduced Doris to the love of her life, Scott Thomas Langley Sr., They were married on Aug. 11, 1956, and were blessed with more than 55 years together. She was a giving and beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Doris was known as “Nana” by her grandchildren.

She was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Camp Hill, where she served in many capacities. Also, she was a long-time member of the Five Points Study Club. Mrs. Langley was a retired school teacher, who loved all of her students.

Doris was predeceased in death by her parents and husband; her son, Curtis Langley; brother, Joe Sims, and brother-in-law, Weldon Parkman.

She is survived by her children, Thomas Langley (Terri), Cathy L. McCoy (Skip) and Chris Langley (Elizabeth); 11 grandchildren, Ansley L. Averett (Curt), Collin Langley (Anna), Joshua Langley (Sandi), Rebecca Langley, Meredith M. Fink (Danny), Merrielle M, Key (Jake), Mallorie McCoy, Christopher Langley, Charlie Langley, Chandler Langley and Chelsea Langley; three great grandchildren, Daisy Fink, Avery Langley and Sophie Key; her sisters, Carole Bishop (Terry), Mary Jean Parkman and Hilda Ware (William); her brother, Curtis “Billy” Sims (Joan); daughter-in-law, Vicki Langley and sister-in-law, Margurite Sims.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. CT at Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette with Rev. Mike Beck officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. CT until the service hour.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to County Line Baptist Church, 10425 County Road 48, Camp Hill, AL 36862 in her memory.
