Mr. Charles Duffey 1929-2019

Mr. Charles Duffey, 89, of Valley, passed away on June 3 at the EAMC Lanier Nursing Home in Valley. He was born on December 26, 1929, in Shawmut.

Mr. Duffey is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Carol Duffey; his four children, Greg (Kathy) Duffey, Angie (Kirby) Hadaway, Tina (Tommy) Hamby, and Chris (Angie) Duffey; his five grandchildren, Landra (Corey) Cooper, Zach (Katrina) Duffey, Jacob Moore, Miles (Christy) Duffey, Landon (Kayla) Duffey; his five great-grandchildren, Kenadie Cooper, Piper Duffey, Keeley Moore, Huntleigh Duffey, and Holland Duffey; his sister, Peggy (William) Gaylor; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Duffey and Annie Mae Gresham Duffey; his brother, W. L. Duffey.

 Mr. Duffey was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Shawmut where he was a deacon.  He was an Eagle Scout and spent ten years serving in the Alabama National Guard, Dixie Division. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Funeral services were held on June 5 at 4 p.m. EDT at the First Baptist Church of Shawmut. Interment followed in Johnson Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Chuck Anderson officiated the service. The family received friends Wednesday afternoon from 3 p.m. EDT until the service hour at the church. Donations may be made to Chattahoochee Hospice or to the First Baptist Church of Shawmut in his memory.
