Mrs. Mary Rose Lockhart — 1928-2019

Mrs. Mary Rose Lockhart, 90, of Waverly, died on June 9 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Travelers Missionary Baptist Church, Waverly on June 14 at noon CDT with Rev. B. Datiri officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. CDT until the funeral hour. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, June 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Vines Funeral Home Chapel.
Lockhart devoted her life to her family, church and community. As a faithful member of Mt. Travelers Missionary Baptist Church, she served in many capacities through the years. Having resided in Waverly for over 80 years, she worked with community action programs and served as a member to the advisory committee of Waverly Nutrition Center. She was an avid supporter and participant of BTU and Rick Pride Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Lockhart was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of forty-seven years, Deacon Amos Lockhart, Sr.
Lockhart is survived by her three daughters: Mary L. (Tommy) Jackson, Opelika, Rev. Amery L. Johnson, Paterson, New Jersey, and Mae Doris L. (Howard) Rudolph, Mobile; three sons: Joseph (Jennifer) Lockhart, Amos (Annie) Lockhart, Jr. and Robert Lockhart, all of Waverly; four siblings: Ludie Love, Opelika, Iola Kimbrough, Lela Dowdell, and Bobby Dowdell, all of Muskegon, MI; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
