Derrick sent many years working in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster and risk assessment manager, until his health failed.

He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Westside Community C.M.E. Church. Even as a child, his voice was recognized as outstanding. He sang in youth choirs at Mathlema A.M.E. Church and Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church where his mother was the musician. Later, he sang with the Majestic Choir of Ben Hill UMC and the Atlanta Philharmonic Chorale of Atlanta. He later connected with Carter Monumental C.M.E. Church, where he has worked faithfully until his death, serving as choir president and former trustee. His delight was praising the Lord with his blessed and melodious voice.

He leaves to cherish precious memories: his loving mother Brenda Adams Wise; three devoted brothers Terence Wise (Paula), Dr. Carlos Wise (Desonuia), and the Rev. Alejandro Wise (Sonja); sister Cheryl Curtis; aunts, Bobbie Wise Wilson, Elizabeth Faye Smith (Al), Marcella T. Wise, Rochelle Myrick Cook (Albert), Corliss Myrick Ellis (Jimmy), Karen Myrick Carrington (Michael); his favorite cousin Yolanda King; best friend Kem Rocurt; his godmother Ola Allen; the Rutledge, Winston, and Adams clans; nieces; nephews; and the Carter Monumental Church Family.

A Celebrating of Life Service for Mr. Myrick will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at 10 a.m. ET in the sanctuary of the Holsey Monumental C.M.E. Church, 6028 Buena Vista Road in Columbus, with the Rev. Dr. L.K. Allen as the eulogist. Interment will follow in Marseille Cemetery.

The remain will lie in state at the church on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 9 a.m. ET until the funeral hour.
