Mrs. Sara Jarrell Power — 1931-2019

Mrs. Sara Jarrell Power, 88, of Lanett, passed away on July 21 at the EAMC Lanier Nursing Home in Valley. 

Power was born in Jefferson County on Jan. 19, 1931, to the late Rex Jarrell and Susie Gillenwaters Jarrell.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, John L. Power; children, Lynn Slaker and John F. Power; brother, Jack Herman Jarrell. 

Mrs. Power had lived in Lanett since 1931 and graduated from Lanett High School. She was employed by the West Point Pepperell Corporate Office for 39 years. She went on to work for Wellington Sears until her retirement. She served as a cashier for both companies.

She was a member of the Lanett First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Pilot Club and several FUMC circles. She loved to read, solve word and math puzzles, travel and the Atlanta Braves.  

She is survived by her son-in-law, Chuck Slaker, Columbus; cousin, Peggeen Harbert, Hickory, North Carolina; grandchildren, Cary Slaker, Tarah Turner, Joseph Slaker, Merideth Fernandes, Kimberly Slaker, John Slaker, Jake Power, Halley Power; and four great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held on July 24 at 11 a.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home chapel in Valley with interment following in Marseilles Cemetery in West Point. The Rev. Rusty Williams officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. EDT until the service hour. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her memory to the Lanett First United Methodist Church or to Chattahoochee Hospice.
