Valley tax preparer arrested on theft of property charges

A local tax preparer has been arrested and charged with theft of property first, according to a press release from the Valley Police Department.

Christina Prather Williams was arrested after an investigation into allegations that she had stolen the federal income tax refund from several of her customers.

Since 2016, Williams has owned and operated Family Tax Services, which is located at 85 Trammell Avenue in Valley.

The Internal Revenue Service has also been asked to assist in the case. According to the press release, Williams was arrested on July 1 and July 14, and more charges are pending as victims are identified.

The VPD is asking clients of Family Tax Service that have not received their 2018 income tax return to contact Lt. Chris Daniel at (334) 756-5261.   

The VPD also recommended that former clients who received their return to contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to determine if the amount issued matches what was received.
