LaFAYETTE — Residents receiving trash service from Chambers County may have noticed a new truck picking up trash as of Thursday.
The county approved a new trash pickup contract with Amwaste earlier this summer to provide residential garbage and rubbish collection for the area.
The initial rates for collection will be $16.49 per month for a residential unit and the first quarterly billing cycle for August, September and October will be $49.47, according to the contract between Amwaste and the county.
The contract states the rate is split into two parts — the collection component and disposal component. The collection rate is $13.80 a month and the disposal is $2.60.
The contract between the county and Amwaste is for three years and is set to expire on July 31, 2022.
The county granted Amwaste an exclusive franchise agreement to pick up garbage at residential homes, and in exchange, Amwaste has agreed to pay the county a franchise fee of $30,000. The franchise fee is scheduled to be paid on Aug. 1 of each year, according to the contract.
